Helping Our Clients

One way of helping clients to work with their issues is by helping them to tune in and reconnect with their own feelings and then trying to label it with a basic ‘emotional’ word, broadening the descriptions to cover many different variations on a mood. Emotional cards have been a great aide to those clients who are unable to accurately describe how they feel because their upbringing has conditioned them to suppress their emotions and needs believing they are neither valid nor accepted and as a consequence lead them to withdraw; not allowing others to get too close. More often than not clients’ use these cards when trying to describe how they feel or have felt at a particular time or in a situation. These have not only enabled them to put feelings into words but have also helped them to be more empathetic in trying to feel accurately what others might be feeling. By continuing to work with these cards in the area of emotional awareness clients find they slowly get to a position where they are comfortable with sharing and expressing their feelings in a safe setting which once felt unacceptable. This self awareness and correction is having a profound effect on them and their lives. By understanding and accepting themselves at a deeper level and by becoming more secure in themselves they are becoming more sensitive to their own feelings and better able to tune into others. This is enabling them to go further and deeper in our counselling sessions as well as having a profound affect and altering the way they behave and interact with their family and friends. Whereas before they were afraid to let others come close to them now they feel less insecure and able to give more love and more of themselves building closer and deeper relationships.
